Speed Camera Detectors

Seriously consider a speed camera detector as a Christmas gift for the man in mind to help him look after his licence and livelihood.

 

Did you know that around 40% of drivers in the UK now have points on their licence as a result of being snapped by a speed camera of one type or another? It was only 29% in 2003! Over 6000 speed cameras, both static and mobile, now watch over drivers in the UK.

 

It's not as if the country is populated by speed freak drivers, people are just going about their daily businesses not wanting to hurt anybody, hurt ourselves or damage our cars. The problem is more related to the Department for Transport working on the basis of simplistic and flawed statistics and believing several years ago that "30% of accidents are speed related". In more recent years this statistic has been proved to be more like 5 to 7%. However in the meantime there has been a surge in the use of speed camera technology combined with wholesale speed reductions of speed limits often to unrealistically low levels. Sadly the main causes of accidents have been largely disregarded, but that's another subject.

 

So, the sad truth is, even though the man in your life may be a very safe driver with an excellent driving history he may well still find himself the distressed recipient of a scary-sounding Notice of Intended Prosecution resulting from driving a few miles over an inappropriately low speed limit ensnared by an inconspicuous van. These can point a laser at the front or rear of the car from up to a kilometre away, measure the speed and take a photograph or short video.

 

One reason the government has gone down this route is that it is a self-funding road safety initiative. And yet the road safety benefits of speed cameras have now been shown to be very small. So we strongly endorse the use by drivers of speed camera detectors, and it could be argued that speed cameras are supposedly placed in areas with a high incident of accidents and so we should be reminded of the speed limit in force - however inappropriate it may be.

Wallets as Gifts

It's just one of those smells isn't it. You need to have a crafty sniff now and then before you put it away. The smell of a new leather wallet would surely come in the top 5 of Men's Favourite Smells of all Time.

 

Many women require a handbag of cavernous dimensions or a small holdall in which to carry their bits and pieces whilst for a man a wallet will generally suffice to hold a few credit cards, driving licence, some coins and a wad of £50 notes (we wish!).
